Lark Taylor – Devil’s Mark

My latest read is Lark Taylor‘s Devil’s Mark, the first book in her Reckless Damned series.

Devil’s Mark is a thrilling high heat, hurt/comfort, M/M contemporary paranormal romance with a HEA and no cliff-hanger. It features a possessive demon and the broken teacher who captures his heart. ‘Devil’s Mark’ is the first in The Reckless Damned series but can be read as a standalone. Each book focuses on a different couple and will have a HEA.

Lark Taylor builds a very rich world in which demons and other supernatural creatures live hidden among human society. She provides an interesting picture of Hell and demon society throughout the book.  I really liked the characters. We meet Oscar, an English teacher who is recovering from a particularly bad relationship, and Cal, a demon who going through his long life with a stream of lovers who never hold his interest. Once they meet, there is an instant connection that leads to sparks flying. Oscar is so relatable in his worries, anxiety, and love of M/M romance books. The reader is drawn in and becomes investing in Oscar and Cal’s Happy Ever After. The side characters have a life of their own. My favorite was one of Cal’s brothers, Harlow. I’m very much looking forward to reading his story in book 2.

Overall, the plot was interesting, the characters engaging, and the pacing steady enough to keep the reader turning page after page. Definitely worth reading this book and the whole series.

Ellis Kincaide’s What It’s Worth

A new book came out from an author I know, Ellis Kincaide. Previously published in a short story anthology, this work has been enhanced and extended for it’s Kindle release. Here’s the blurb:

Journalist Ian Richards just wants to finish his story on immigration’s effect on extended families. When his source sends him to a BDSM club, Ian must decide how far he’ll go for his story. Will he let the enigmatic Vincenzo call the shots or will his surly stubbornness ruin what could be his best article yet?

Kincaide’s writing flows off the page. Ian is relatable with his grumpy attitude and imposter syndrome. His meeting with Vincenzo is hot and steamy and leads to some wonderful BDSM scenes. It’s a quick read, definitely worth your time.

What It’s Worth is out now on Kindle Unlimited.

Giwoggle

Another one of Pennsylvania’s cryptids, the giwoggle is the official monster of Clinton county. The creature has the body of a wolf with bird talons instead of front paws and horse hooves in place of back paws. It walks upright and stands around six feet tall. According to the legends, the giwoggle is not naturally occurring, but is instead conjured by a witch. The mixed up body parts an intentional part of the spell in order to confuse trackers. The creature doesn’t harm people, but is instead sent to annoy those that had offended the witch, often with pranks and petty vandalism. Farmers would find their crops trampled, animals frightened, or tools damaged.

Bernard at PA Wilds traces the stories of the giwoggle back to the mid1800s as an oral tale passed down through generations. It is most common around West Keating Township, PA. The earliest written record of the giwoggle was an article in a folklore periodical, where George Rhone recorded the tale of the creature having heard it from his grandmother. There are even tales of a local hero, Loop Hill Ike, having defeated giwoggles and their witches.

Katherine McIntyre – Leather and Lattes

Lately I have been reading the Leather and Lattes series by Katherine McIntyre.

Set in the same world as her Dungeons and Dating series, each book features a different employee who works at Whipped, a cafe and kink club. What I love about the series is it’s diversity, both in the kinks that are represented and in the pairings. The first book, Immersion Play, features Micah, new to kink, and Parker, a Daddy Dom. Both come with emotional baggage that they must sort out to find their happily ever after. The later books mix up the pairings with the second book (Extraction Play) featuring a FF pairing, then a MMM pairing in the third book (Percolation Play), and a MX pairing in the fourth (Filtration Play). The fifth book, Concentration Play, takes us back to an MM pairing and rounds out the last of the main casts of characters.

“But he’s definitely a brat-in-waiting.”

“Oh good,” Sloan said. “We haven’t collected one of those yet.”

“Kinkster Pokemon?” Parker said, a grin rising to his lips. “Gotta catch ’em all?”

While the books feature sexy, kinky romps in bed (and other places) and numerous play party scenes, they don’t lack for plot and conflict. The books are hard to put down once started. The characters really suck you into their lives and the happenings at Whipped. The found family aspect is strong throughout the whole series and really helps to tie the books together.

If you like some kink with your romance, go and check out the series. You won’t be disappointed.

N. Slater – Rope Me Down

My latest read is Rope Me Down by N. Slater, a MMMMM Rancher novel.

Abandoned by the side of the highway by his boyfriend, Ash is rescued by his boyfriend’s father, Boone, and taken back to the ranch where most of the family lives. Ash can’t deny his attraction to Boone and his boyfriend’s three brothers, something he has been trying to suppress for months. Offered two weeks of being taken care of, in every sense, by the four men, Ash can’t say no. A wild sex filled two weeks wait for him, but at the end, will he stay?

“Tell me I’ve been imagining this for two years and I’ll say goodnight and we never talk about it again.”

N. Slater has some gorgeous writing in this one. I could definitely feel the emotions of the characters coming through. The sex scenes are numerous, but varied enough to keep things fresh. What I loved about this book is that no matter how kinky the sex got consent, and enthusiastic consent, was king. This book is about a character getting out of a string of shitty relationships and finding out what real love looks like. Ash is made not to feel smaller, but to feel welcomed and encouraged to take up space in the lives of the others.

Definitely check it out.
