Lark Taylor – Devil’s Mark

My latest read is Lark Taylor‘s Devil’s Mark, the first book in her Reckless Damned series.

Devil’s Mark is a thrilling high heat, hurt/comfort, M/M contemporary paranormal romance with a HEA and no cliff-hanger. It features a possessive demon and the broken teacher who captures his heart. ‘Devil’s Mark’ is the first in The Reckless Damned series but can be read as a standalone. Each book focuses on a different couple and will have a HEA.

Lark Taylor builds a very rich world in which demons and other supernatural creatures live hidden among human society. She provides an interesting picture of Hell and demon society throughout the book.  I really liked the characters. We meet Oscar, an English teacher who is recovering from a particularly bad relationship, and Cal, a demon who going through his long life with a stream of lovers who never hold his interest. Once they meet, there is an instant connection that leads to sparks flying. Oscar is so relatable in his worries, anxiety, and love of M/M romance books. The reader is drawn in and becomes investing in Oscar and Cal’s Happy Ever After. The side characters have a life of their own. My favorite was one of Cal’s brothers, Harlow. I’m very much looking forward to reading his story in book 2.

Overall, the plot was interesting, the characters engaging, and the pacing steady enough to keep the reader turning page after page. Definitely worth reading this book and the whole series.
